Mary was called to serve a mission for the Latter-day Saint Church only five years after women began to serve missions. She was called to the Central States Mission, which included the town of Independence, Missouri, in its vast land expanse. Independence was one of the first missions established in the Latter-day Saint Church, making the Central States Mission one of the oldest missions in the Church's history. Mary's journal is important due to the fact that she served in the first decade that women began to be called on missions. It is also important because it contains information about the Central States Mission, and she records talks and advice given by the Latter-day Saint prieshtood leaders who presided over her and her fellow missionaries. There is also a folder containing loose papers such as grade reports and Article of Faith cards. 1903-1904.
